NACAC 2017: Supporting Students, Celebrating Educators

Another successful NACAC (National Association of College Admissions Counseling) annual conference came and went, and the RaiseMe team was out in full force last month in Boston to meet with hundreds of educators to collaborate, discuss and brainstorm the most effective tactics and strategies to help their students build out their paths to higher education.

It was a busy, fulfilling, and fruitful three days as we reunited with school counselors we’ve met, made new connections, and celebrated with our college partners about our collective progress in changing the way students receive college financial aid.

Most importantly, though, educator appreciation was at the center of the RaiseMe team’s NACAC 2017 experience. Below were some of the highlights of our time in Boston:

  • Learning from educators like Anna Maria Vaccaro about how she utilizes RaiseMe in short 20-min competitive workshops to help her first-generation college-bound students gain early access to college financial aid.

  • Chatted with educators like Shay Moss of Democracy Prep in Harlem, NY, Jessica Adams of Animas High school in Durango, CO, and many more about what exactly inspires them about their work as high school educators:

  • Learned how Kenneth Bordelon of Yes Prep in San Antonio, TX stays resilient and committed to helping students build opportunities for attaining higher education, in spite of natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey:
