#12DaysOfKindness Student Spotlight, Day 4: Abby T.

To ring in the holiday season, RaiseMe is celebrating #12DaysOfKindness. Each day, we’ll feature a new high school student doing outstanding work to serve their communities. Today’s spotlight is on Abby T., a high school junior from Scottsdale, AZ who taught English at a rural Chinese orphanage:

Here’s what Michael shared about his community service experience:

What is your act of service ?

I traveled to Chinese countryside to teach English and prepare meals at an orphanage.

Can you share your favorite memory from this act of service?

We traveled out into the countryside because a man wanted to give his daughter to the orphanage. This was done simply out of love and care, as he recognized that he no longer had the money to provide for his daughter and only wanted the best for her.

What’s one lesson you’ve learned from your service experience?

With great love comes great sacrifice even when that sacrifice results in your own pain and suffering.
