RaiseMe Community

#12DaysOfKindness Student Spotlight, Day 7: Luna A

To ring in the holiday season, RaiseMe is celebrating #12DaysOfKindness. Each day, we’ll feature a new high school student doing outstanding work to serve their communities. Today’s spotlight is on Luna A., a high school junior from Morristown, NJ who taught non-violence in her own community.

Here’s what Luna shared about his community service experience:

What is your act of service ?

I taught at a non-violence summer program called Alternatives to Violence Project.

Can you share your favorite memory from this act of service?

I have made lifelong friendships through this program, and have also advocated for meaningful change alongside my AVP friends. Every summer, there are kids who come into the program as very shy individuals, and exit the camp as people with an improved self-esteem and new friends; being able to witness this is always the best part of my service experience.

What’s one lesson you’ve learned from your service experience?

I have learned the valuable lesson of understanding the life experiences of others. This program requires people to share their personal stories and connect to others, and understanding the value of this has helped transformed my life for the better.
