Texas Gulf Coast Students of the Year
The Students of the Year Campaign is a seven-week initiative in which nominated high school students - as individuals or in teams of up to three candidates - participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Texas Gulf Coast Chapter. Students of the Year nominees must submit an application, then the Students of the Year Leadership Committee will help select the candidates. The students raise money in honor of a local patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Successful candidates will form teams, which may include family, friends, teachers or classmates, to help with planning, fundraising, and logistics of the campaign. Every candidate must have an "Adult Sponsor" who will serve as a mentor or campaign manager throughout the campaign.
The candidate, or team of candidates, that raises the most money at the end of the seven-week competition earns the title Students of the Year as well as a $2,500 scholarship to the college or university of his/her choice. An additional three students will be selected to receive a Citizenship Award based on their campaign's commitment to Community, Leadership and the LLS Mission. Every candidate who reaches the minimum fundraising amount of $8,000 will also receive recognition for their achievement. For more information or to apply, please visit the scholarship provider's website.
