Maryland Sea Grant Undergraduate Fellowships in Estuarine Science
The Research Experience for Undergraduates fellowship program is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation to the University of Maryland Sea Grant College.
Its goal is to encourage students to develop independence and confidence in a reserach-oriented atmosphere, and to continue their education in estuarine and ocean science. The 12-week program offers students an opportunity to work with university scientists on major marine research programs that focus on the Chesapeake Bay. As members of either the Chesapeake Biological, Horn Point, or Academy of Natural Sciences Estuarine Research Center labs, students will work on individual reserach projects in areas including ecology, physical oceanography, biogeochemistry, contaminants, fisheries and submerged aquatic vegetation. Housing is provided for students at either the Chesapeake Biological or Horn Point laboratories.Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and have completed at least two years of study towards (but not yet completed) a bachelorâs degree. Preference is given to students who are rising seniors. Students from underrepresented groups and institutions with limited research opportunities are especially encouraged to apply.
