Marsden Scholarships are intended primarily for high school graduates who demonstrate a distinct promise of academic excellence pursuing a baccalaureate degree on a full-time basis, to help them attend higher-rated colleges or universities which might be too costly without the scholarship.
To be eligible, the applicant must have a permanent legal residence within the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane (the state of Washington east of the Cascade Mountains or the state of Idaho north of the Salmon River), but religious affiliation is not required.Up to two (2) new scholarships are awarded each year, based primarily on potential for academic excellence in any field of study. Grades, test scores, other indicia of potential for academic excellence, and the financial impact of a scholarship on applicant's plans are all considered in a "total picture" of each application, so minimums are not set here. For reference, successful applicants on average have cumulative GPA above 3.5 and combined math/reading SAT scores above 1300, or other compelling evidence of potential for academic excellence. New awards are usually made to students entering college as freshmen but occasionally to those already in college. And sometimes special awards are made for graduate studies.
