AETNA Foundation/NMF Healthcare Leadership Program

The Aetna Foundation, Inc. and National Medical Fellowships, Inc. are pleased to announce the fourth year of the Aetna Foundation/NMF Healthcare Leadership Program to help address the severe national shortage of physician-leaders who are committed to the health of underserved communities. This program will provide a $5,000 scholarship to each of fourteen (14) current second-or third-year medical students from underrepresented minority groups (US citizens only) with a commitment to serving medically underserved communities. Awardees will demonstrate evidence of community service and leadership potential at an early stage in their professional careers. Scholars must attend medical school in one of the following targeted regions:California (Los Angeles)ConnecticutGeorgia (Atlanta)Illinois (Chicago)New JerseyNew York (New York City)Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)Eligibility:-To be eligible, candidates must be US citizens and underrepresented minority students currently in their 2nd or 3rd -year at an accredited US medical school (MD or DO). Scholars must be attending medical school in one of the following Aetna Foundation-targeted regions: Southern California (particularly Los Angeles), Connecticut, Georgia (Atlanta), Illinois (particularly Chicago), New Jersey, New York City, and Philadelphia.-Candidates must demonstrate: outstanding academic achievement as evidenced in academic transcripts, faculty evaluations, receipt of special academic or national medical society honors, fellowships, and awards; leadership as indicated by active participation in international health, community-based activities or initiation of innovative projects; and potential for distinguished contributions to medicine as indicated by participation in research, publications or unique clerkshipsProgram highlights:-Seeks underrepresented minority medical students who have experience with health leadership activities-$5,000 grant for current 2nd and 3rd-year medical students-Scholars will be required to attend an NMF Gala in their region-Participation in interactive networking sessions with health professionals-Scholars invited into the distinguished NMF Alumni network for mentoring and collegial interactionFor more information or to apply, please visit the scholarship provider's website.
