Effective Date: May 25, 2018
At RaiseMe, we take your privacy seriously because your personal information is just that: personal.
What Information does RaiseMe Collect?
Information You Provide to Us:
We receive and store any information you knowingly provide to us. For example, through the registration process and/or through your account settings, we may collect Personal Information (such as but not limited to your name, email address, phone number), account information (such as but not limited to a password or other information that helps us confirm that it is you accessing your account), demographic or other information (such as your school, gender, age or birthday, and other information about your interests and preferences), and verified third-party account credentials (for example, but not limited to your log-in credentials for Google Plus or other third party sites). Any other information combined with your Personal Information will be treated together as Personal Information. You may have the opportunity to create a profile, which may include Personal Information, photographs, information about your academic and work history, your interests and activities, your use of RaiseMe's Services and other information.
Information Collected Indirectly:
Whenever you interact with our Services, we automatically receive and record information from your browser or device, which may include your IP address, geolocation data, device identification, "cookie" information, the type of browser and/or device you're using to access our Services, and the page or feature you requested. "Cookies" are identifiers we transfer to your browser or device that allow us to recognize your browser or device and tell us how and when pages and features in our Services are visited and by how many people. You may be able to change the preferences on your browser or device to prevent or limit your device's acceptance of cookies, but this may prevent you from taking advantage of some of our features. As a possible example, we may receive information indicating that a large percentage of our student users are located in a certain city or state, and accordingly we may seek to develop or deepen our relationships with college or university partners in the area in order to improve the breadth and depth of Services available to students in those locations.
We may use data that is automatically collected from interaction with our Services to customize content for you based on your usage patterns. We may also use it to improve our Services - for example, this data can tell us how often users use a particular feature of our Services, and we can use that knowledge to make the Services more interesting to as many users as possible.
We, or our service providers and other third parties we work with, may place cookies when you visit our website and other websites or when you open emails that we send you, in order to provide you with more tailored marketing content (about our services or other services), and to evaluate whether this content is useful or effective. If you don’t want to receive ads that are tailored to you based on your anonymous online activity, you may “opt out” of many of the companies that are involved in such tailoring by going to http://www.aboutads.info. Opting out in this way does not mean you will not receive any ads; it just means that you will not receive ads from such companies that have been tailored to you based on your activities and inferred preferences.
Information Collected From Third Parties:
From time to time in the course of our business or operations, we may collaborate with High Schools, Colleges, Universities or other educational partners to collect, analyze and process data relating to our student users. Such collaboration enables us to grow and improve our Services. Generally, any such data is collected in an aggregated and anonymized format, which means that Personal Information will not be included in any such collected data. Your use of the platform constitutes your consent to the collection and sharing of aggregated, anonymized data from such third parties in the manner described in this paragraph. In the event that any data is collected from third parties in a manner that contains Personal Information, we will take reasonable efforts to ensure that our users have consented to the collection and sharing of such Personal Information.
Will RaiseMe Share Any of the Personal Information it Receives?
No. We do not disclose your Personal Information, combined Personal and demographic information, or information about your use of RaiseMe to third parties, except as set forth below.
Information that's been de-identified. We may de-identify your Personal Information so that you are not identified as an individual and provide that information to our partners. We may also provide aggregate usage information to our partners (or allow partners to collect that information from you), who may use such information to understand how often and in what ways people use our Services so that they, too, can provide you with an optimal online experience.
Colleges: If you are a Student, you may share your Personal Information with a College by taking certain actions on the RaiseMe site, including, but not limited to, submitting your Micro-Scholarships for redemption, applying to specific programs and scholarships, or adding a College to your list of followed Colleges. If you provide your email address or mobile phone number and are following a college, you have indicated interest in the college through RaiseMe, and it is possible that the college may contact you directly via email or SMS (outside of the RaiseMe platform). You can always request directly to the college to opt out of any direct communication from them. Colleges are responsible for managing their messaging outside of RaiseMe through email and/or SMS, as well as the opt-in or opt-out process for students to receive those messages.
Non-Profit & Corporate Scholarship Administrators: If you apply for a Micro-Scholarship sponsored by a non-College third party, such as a non-profit or corporation, your profile information may be shared with a third-party scholarship administrator to select scholarship recipients. The third-party scholarship administrator may contact you directly to verify your profile information, including, but not necessarily limited to, obtaining copies of academic transcripts, proof of financial need if required, or any other documentation RaiseMe or the scholarship administrator requires to award the scholarship and disburse funds to you or your College.
Sponsors: If you follow a Sponsor, that Sponsor will receive access to your individual profile.
User Profiles and Submissions: Certain profile information, including your name, location, and any video or image content that you have uploaded to the Services, may be displayed to other Users. Please remember that any content you upload to your public user profile, along with any Personal Information or content that you voluntarily disclose online in a manner other Users can view (on discussion boards, in messages and chat areas, etc.), becomes publicly available and can be collected and used by anyone.
Business Transfers: We may choose to buy or sell assets, and may share and/or transfer customer information in connection with the evaluation of and entry into such transactions. Also, if we (or our assets) are acquired, or if we go out of business, enter bankruptcy, or go through some other change of control, Personal Information could be one of the assets transferred to or acquired by a third party.
