SAN FRANCISCO, CA — May 3, 2018 – RaiseMe is proud to announce its selection as a member of the 2018 Ignite cohort at NewSchools Venture Fund.

As one of 11 ed-tech companies selected for the cohort, RaiseMe will receive grant funding from NewSchools Venture Fund to support its commitment to helping students become better equipped for higher education and beyond through earlier access to college scholarships. Each Ignite cohort company has been recognized for the creation and expansion of an innovative ed-tech product that is helping students develop skills and knowledge that will help them succeed in the jobs of tomorrow. In addition to the funding, NewSchools will provide management assistance and create a community of practice for cohort members.

RaiseMe seeks to expand educational opportunities for high school students by rewarding them with “micro-scholarships” or incremental, achievement-based scholarships awarded from college and universities as early as freshman year in high school. Students can earn micro-scholarships for individual academic, personal and extracurricular achievements as they progress through high school, such as earning “As” and “Bs” in coursework, participating in community service, and taking on leadership roles on or off campus, among hundreds of other accomplishments. The platform not only guides students towards activities that prepare them to be successful in high school, college, and beyond, but also allows them to discover right-fit colleges and universities.

Since launching nationally in the fall of 2014, RaiseMe has helped over one million students earn more than $2 billion in micro-scholarships. Over 285 colleges are currently awarding micro-scholarships on the platform, including institutions such as Pennsylvania State University, Florida International University, Northeastern University, Arizona State University, and Tulane University.

“RaiseMe was started with the idea that providing earlier access to institutional scholarships and grants could give students a more transparent and empowering path to college and career success,” said Preston Silverman, CEO and Co-Founder at RaiseMe. “We’re honored to be recognized for how far we’ve come in the pursuit of helping students prepare for the future of work, and look forward to supporting students in even more ways, with backing from NewSchools Venture Fund.”

“Today’s students will be part of a workforce unlike any we’ve ever seen. They need tools to navigate this rapidly changing landscape, and ed-tech has the potential to address critical needs and increase students’ opportunities in the future economy” said Tonika Cheek Clayton, Managing Partner at NewSchools Venture Fund. “That’s why NewSchools Ignite is proud to invest in RaiseMe to develop engaging tools to connect students to the future of work.”

About RaiseMe

RaiseMe is on a mission to expand access to higher education by transforming the way billions of dollars in college scholarships are distributed each year. Rather than waiting until the end of high school to award scholarships, which is too late to impact students college ambitions or application decisions, RaiseMe enables students to earn college scholarships throughout high school, based on their individual progress and development. Whether it’s getting good grades, volunteering in the community, or leading a club, students on RaiseMe receive scholarships based on their unique skills and experience. Since launching in the fall of 2014, students in 2 out of every 3 high schools in America have earned over $2 billion in scholarships from 285+ colleges, including Florida International University, Arizona State University, University of Chicago, University of Rochester, Northeastern, Tulane and Georgia Tech.
